Longcase Floor Clock
Time & Mechanism
← Back to collectionA timepiece whose presence shapes the room as well as marking its hours.
The longcase clock belongs to a design tradition in which timekeeping becomes a commanding presence within a room. Early milestones include a pendulum clock movement by Johannes Fromanteel, dated to around 1660 by Royal Museums Greenwich. The tall wooden case, decorated dial and moon- and calendar-like details turn the clock into an architectural part of its setting. This piece is displayed in the collection and is not open to offers.
